1. General

1. These Terms constitute an agreement between you and Athena Reader ("Athena", "we", or "the Operator") regarding your use of the Product and Services. The Operator is Chengdu Wuhou District Liuxiangli Business Information Consulting Service (sole proprietorship), unified social credit code 92510107MAKKUB3JX8, contact email support@athena-reader.com.

2. Please read these Terms carefully before registering or using the Product. By registering, logging in, or otherwise using the Product, you acknowledge and agree to be bound by these Terms in full.

3. We may modify or supplement these Terms when necessary and publish them within the Product. Your continued use constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

2. Accounts and Use

1. You shall provide true, accurate and complete registration information (such as your email address) and keep your account and credentials secure.

2. Your account is for your personal use only and may not be transferred, lent, sold or shared. You are responsible for all activities conducted through your account.

3. You may delete your account at any time. Upon deletion, your right to use the Services terminates.

4. The Product is intended for users aged 13 and above. Minors aged 13 or above but under 18 may use the Product only with the informed consent and supervision of a guardian, and any purchase requires the guardian's prior consent. Mainland China has an additional children's personal-information threshold of 14 under the PIPL; see Privacy Policy section 5. Guardians who discover that a minor has registered or paid without their consent may contact us through the channels set out in "Complaints & Reports".

3. Your Rights and Obligations (Lawful Use)

1. You must comply with the laws and regulations of your jurisdiction and, where applicable, of the People's Republic of China when using the Services.

2. You must not use the Product to create, upload, store or disseminate content that: endangers national security or unity; harms national honour or interests; incites ethnic hatred or discrimination; undermines religious policy or promotes cults or superstition; spreads rumours or disturbs public order; contains obscenity, pornography, gambling, violence, terrorism, or incitement to crime; insults or defames others or infringes their lawful rights; or is otherwise prohibited by law.

3. You must not use the Product for any illegal activity, create or distribute malicious programs, or engage in any conduct that endangers network security.

4. You must ensure that the books and content you upload or import are lawfully owned or licensed, and respect the intellectual property of others. You are solely responsible for any disputes or liabilities arising from your content.

5. If you violate the above, we may, at our own discretion, suspend or terminate the Services provided to you, and you shall bear the resulting legal liability.

4. Intellectual Property

1. The software, interface, trademarks, text and graphics of the Product are protected by copyright, trademark, computer software protection and other applicable laws, and may not be used without authorization.

2. Open-source components, dictionaries, fonts and other third-party materials distributed with the Product belong to their respective owners; attributions and licenses are provided in "Open-Source & Acknowledgements".

5. AI and Paid Services

1. Certain advanced features (such as AI translation, OCR, ask-the-book/summarization, and text-to-speech) may rely on third-party technology and be subject to usage limits.

Billing and quota rules (this item is the basis on which paid services are metered; please read it before purchasing):

(1) The unit of metering is a "run", not a token. One AI request counts as one metering event; we do not bill you by the number of characters or tokens in the input or output.

(2) Runs deducted per request = the tier factor of the model you selected × the tier factor of your context length. Free-tier models have a factor of 0; the context-length tier is chosen by you in settings, and the longest tier carries a higher factor than the shorter and default tiers. The "N runs per message" shown in the model selector is the number actually deducted at your current context tier, visible before you send; it updates as soon as you change the context tier. You can switch models or choose a shorter context tier accordingly.

(3) Free-tier models deduct no runs; they are limited only by a monthly cap on free conversations. That cap is calculated per calendar month and resets on the month boundary in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), so that the rule is identical for users in every time zone. In-reader tap-to-translate using a free-tier model has its own separate monthly cap, counted independently of the conversation cap; neither draws down the other.

(4) A membership's granted runs are issued daily: a fixed allowance each day, resetting on the day boundary in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Any portion unused that day does not accumulate into the next day, does not carry over, and is not convertible to cash or refundable. These runs are part of the membership benefit, not a withdrawable balance. The trial period does not include granted runs for the premium model: during the trial, the premium model is available only through credit packs you purchase separately, and your allowance for the basic model is the same as a free account; what the trial grants is the reading-side benefits such as the cloud library, storage capacity, and OCR. The current values are shown on the Pricing page and in your account. The OCR runs granted with a membership are still issued in 30-day cycles (the cycle starts when your membership begins, so it does not necessarily align with the calendar month).

(5) One-off runs (AI credit packs and OCR packs) are accounted for separately from daily granted runs, and daily granted runs are consumed first. Their validity is as stated on the purchase page and in your order; AI and OCR packs currently have no expiry, while storage add-ons are sold per year.

(6) OCR (text recognition) is deducted on a page-count scale: a book of up to 600 pages costs 1 run; over 600 up to 1,000 pages counts as 2; over 1,000 up to 2,000 pages counts as 3; the per-book limit is 2,000 pages.

(7) The currently effective values of all the parameters above (the free monthly cap, monthly granted runs, per-model tier factors, the OCR page scale, and each product's price and validity) are as shown on the Pricing page and purchase pages inside the Product. We will publish any change to prices or billing rules inside the Product at least 7 days in advance, and such changes do not apply retroactively to a membership period you have already purchased and that is still running, nor to packs you have already bought.

(8) A feature becoming temporarily unavailable because your usage has exceeded the quota you purchased is not a defect in the Services; you may wait for the next billing period or purchase an add-on pack.

2. Paid purchases (memberships, credit packs, etc.) are governed by the Refund Policy.

3. The generative AI capabilities of the Product are provided through the interface of a third-party model provider, named in the third-party disclosure list of the Privacy Policy. AI-generated content is produced automatically by algorithms and may contain errors, omissions or inaccuracies. It does not constitute professional advice of any kind (including but not limited to medical, legal or investment advice); please verify it before relying on it. You bear the consequences of acting directly on generated content.

4. In accordance with the Measures for Labelling AI-Generated Synthetic Content, we add a prominent label in the interfaces that display AI-generated content and in the corresponding exported files. When you forward or publish AI-generated content, you must not delete, alter, forge or conceal that label.

5. You must not use the AI features to generate or disseminate the unlawful content listed in Article 3(2) of these Terms, to infringe the lawful rights of others, or to circumvent safety mechanisms through prompt injection or similar means. We carry out the necessary safety management of generated content; where unlawful content is found, we will stop generation and transmission, remove the content, retain the relevant records, and report to the competent authorities as required.

6. If you believe AI-generated content infringes your lawful rights, or you find unlawful content, you may report it to us through the channels set out in "Complaints & Reports"; we will handle it according to the process and timeframes stated there.

6. Disclaimer

1. To the extent permitted by law, you understand and agree that you use the Product at your own risk. We do not guarantee uninterrupted service, nor make absolute warranties as to timeliness, security or the absence of technical errors.

2. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for service interruptions or data loss caused by hacking, viruses, government regulation, hardware or network failures, force majeure, or other causes not attributable to our wilful misconduct or gross negligence.

7. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by and construed under the laws of the People's Republic of China. Disputes shall be resolved through friendly negotiation; failing that, either party may bring a lawsuit before the competent people's court at the Operator's location.
